Welcome to the Reading Room, a beautifully converted blacksmith's forge dating back to 1724. This charming retreat features a fully refurbished interior, complete with a well-stocked library and 1.2 acres of meticulously maintained gardens.The Reading Room is a unique and traditional cottage, transformed from the original forge building and nestled within the grounds of the owner’s home, the original blacksmith’s cottage. It retains many of its original features, including wooden beams and stone walls, offering a cozy and inviting atmosphere.While you may find it difficult to leave this snug haven, its rural location provides an excellent opportunity to enjoy the magnificent dark skies and abundant wildlife.Situated in the heart of the picturesque West Wales countryside, guests are encouraged to bring their wellies and explore the garden, which features two streams and a wildlife pond—a perfect spot to unwind. The garden also offers seating and a fire pit for your enjoyment.A short drive will take you to the coastal towns of New Quay, Aberaeron, and Cardigan, known for their sandy beaches, eclectic shops, and excellent dining options.For those seeking adventure, a variety of outdoor activities are available nearby, including running, walking, wild swimming, and cycling, all within easy reach.



The Reading Room, formerly known as the forge Yr Efail, once served the Castle Howell Estate. This structure is a prime example of traditional Welsh solid wall construction, utilizing locally sourced granite, lime, and timber.The interior of the Reading Room has been meticulously renovated to preserve the integrity of the traditional building. It features breathable renders and paints, flooring crafted from recycled timber, and claystone render.The open-plan interior includes a contemporary kitchen and shower room at one end, complemented by feature beams, traditional-style radiators, and reclaimed timber flooring. Stone steps lead to a mezzanine sleeping area, enhancing the space's functionality and charm.The Reading Room Library offers a wide selection of reading material for guests to enjoy. Guests are welcome to leave their holiday reads for future visitors.Please note: We are vegan and happy to have vegan & vegetarian food cooked in the Reading Room Kitchen. The Reading Room is nestled in a picturesque rural setting, encompassing 1.2 acres of meticulously landscaped gardens.The grounds feature a diverse array of fruit and vegetable cultivation areas, wildlife-friendly plants, a spacious pond, and two meandering streams.Guests can enjoy various seating areas and a cozy fire pit, perfect for relaxing amidst nature. With a bit of luck, visitors may encounter a visiting fox or otter, as well as over 100 different species of birds that inhabit this area.We strive to create a habitat that attracts a diverse range of flora and fauna. Many areas are intentionally left to nature's devices, with paths mown to follow natural routes, allowing larger spaces to flourish as wildlife havens.

The Reading Room is conveniently positioned just a 20-minute drive from the stunning Ceredigion Coast, famous for its excellent opportunities for swimming, sea kayaking, and coasteering.Enjoy walking and running along the Ceredigion coastal path or explore inland through ancient woodlands and scenic river trails. Our three local parkruns are outstanding!Discover the breathtaking Ceredigion region by cycling. We have some of the best MTB trails in the country, offering an excellent way to immerse yourself in the beauty of the great outdoors.
